Colorless to white, often tinted by impurities; crystallizes as thick tabular, lenticular or prismatic crystals and rosettes, and also as granular or massive material. Three classic varieties are alabaster (massive), selenite (clear crystals) and satin spar (parallel fibrous aggregates).
